In this way (evam), various kinds of means (nānā-vidha-upāyāḥ | nom pl), properly (samyak) accompanied by personal experience (sva-anubhava-anvitāḥ | nom pl m ppp), were taught (kathitāḥ | nom pl m ppp) by the earlier great teachers (pūrva-ācāryaiḥ mahā-ātmabhiḥ | ins pl) as paths to Samādhi (samādhi-mārgāḥ | nom pl).
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Such manifold methods, properly grounded in personal experience, were taught by the earlier great teachers as paths to Samādhi.
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - modern transfer
The high-souled Âchâryas (Teachers) of yore gained experience in the various methods of Samâdhi themselves, and then they preached them to others.
Pancham Sinh - 1915
So sind die mit verschiedenen Hilfsmitteln ausgerüsteten, mit der eigenen Erfahrung genau übereinstimmenden Methoden des Samadhi von den früheren erhabenen Lehrern verkündigt worden.

For those for whom knowledge of reality is impossible (aśakya-tattva-bodhānām | gen pl), and also (api) for the deluded (mūḍhānām | gen pl m ppp), the recognized (saṃmatam | nom acc sg n ppp) practice of Nāda (nāda-upāsanam | nom acc sg), taught (proktam | nom acc sg n ppp) by Gorakṣanātha (gorakṣa-nāthena | ins sg), is set forth (ucyate | 3p sg pas pres).
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
For those unable to realize Tattva, even for the deluded, the practice of Nāda taught by Gorakṣanātha is set forth.
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - modern transfer

Brahmānanda recommends absorption in Nāda especially for people who find direct philosophical insight difficult, because the inner sound provides an immediately perceptible point of support. He does not, however, restrict the method to the “unlearned”: precisely because it is perceptible, it is also suitable for scholars. He invokes Gorakṣa as his authority.

Brahmānanda's Jyotsnā - 19th c.
I will describe now the practice of anâhata nâda, as propounded by Gorakṣa Nâtha, for the benefit of those who are unable to understand the principles of knowledge—a method, which is liked by the ignorant also.
Pancham Sinh - 1915
Selbst von den Ungebildeten, die der Erkenntniss der Wahrheit unfähig sind, wird das gebilligt, was Gorakshanatha gelehrt hat, und was Nâdopâsana genannt wird.
