Through closing the gates (dvāra-rodhanāt | abl sg) and through piercing the eyebrow-center (bhrū-bhedāt | abl sg), with the instrument of sight closed by the hand (kara-ruddha-dṛg-astreṇa | ins sg), [when] the bindu (bindau | loc sg) is seen (dṛṣṭe | loc absl sg m ppp),
when [it] is gradually (kramāt | abl sg) dissolved (līne | loc absl sg m ppp), in the middle of that (tan-madhye | loc sg) [there is] the highest state (paramā sthitiḥ | nom sg).
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Close the gates of the senses with the hands and turn attention to the center between the eyebrows. When the Bindu becomes visible there and gradually dissolves, the supreme state opens at its center.

[The practitioner should contemplate] the bindu (binduṃ | acc sg), whose form (ākṛtim | acc sg) is that of a subtle fire-tilaka (sūkṣma-agni-tilaka | kd/tp), arisen from the inner stirring of the light-place (dhāma-antaḥ-kṣobha-sambhūta | tp abl ppp), at the end of the crest (śikhānte | loc sg) [or] in the heart (hṛdaye | loc sg).
For one meditating (dhyāyataḥ | gen sg m pca), at the end of dissolution (layānte | loc sg), dissolution (layaḥ | nom sg) [arises].
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Meditate on the Bindu as a subtle point of fire, like a luminous tilaka, born from the inner stirring of the place of light. Whether at the crown or in the heart, when this point dissolves, the mind too enters dissolution.

Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Immerse yourself completely in the inner, unstruck sound: the resonance in the ear, uninterrupted like a swift current. Whoever bathes in this sound-Brahman reaches the highest Brahman.

Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Utter Om, or a similar sound, consciously and completely. When the extended sound fades, meditate on the emptiness at the end of the tone. Through this supreme Śakti of emptiness, you yourself glide into emptiness.

Of whatever sound (yasya kasya varṇasya | gen sg) at all (api), one should experience (anubhāvayet | 3p sg act opt caus) the beginning and the end (pūrvāntau | acc du).
Through emptiness (śūnyayā | ins sg f), this person (asau pumān | nom sg), having become empty (śūnya-bhūtaḥ | nom sg m ppp), would become (bhavet | 3p sg act opt) of the form of emptiness (śūnyākāraḥ | nom sg m).
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
With any sound, notice precisely the moment of its arising and the moment of its disappearance. Whoever opens to emptiness in this way becomes empty and takes on the form of emptiness.

Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
Listen with complete concentration to a long instrumental sound, such as a string whose tone unfolds and fades through subtle stages. When attention follows it all the way to the end, one's own form becomes boundless space.

Through the sequence of gross sounds (sthūla-varṇa-krameṇa | ins sg) of the whole Piṇḍa-mantra (piṇḍa-mantrasya sarvasya | gen sg), but (tu) [proceeding through] half-moon, bindu, and sound-end (ardhendu-bindu-nādāntaḥ | nom sg), [the practitioner] becomes (bhavet | 3p sg act opt) Śiva (śivaḥ | nom sg) through the utterance of emptiness (śūnya-uccārāt | abl sg).
Dr. Ronald Steiner - 2026 - historically literal
First utter a mantra-sound in its gross audible form, then follow it into its subtler and subtler stages: half-moon, Bindu, resonance, the end of sound, and finally emptiness. From that emptiness, the path of sound becomes Śiva.
